*If you don't have time to read this full blog post, be sure to at least pay attention to the 4 main tips below:

1. Mow your new sod on the highest setting possible to avoid scalping (if it is fully rooted)

2. Continue to wean back water off the landscape. Watch this video with Chuck showing how to adjust Program B on Irrigation Controller

3. Watch for drought stress in plants as you lean the watering back.

4. It is time to start pruning shrubs and shaping them as needed.

5. If you missed the tips for week 4 click here.

**This recommendation is general and the timeline can change based on type of plants, season, soil type, and rainfall. Please watch your plants and add water as needed to help wean them off the consistent waterings.

4 Tips For Weekly Maintenance On Your New Landscape

We hope that you will be out in your yard enjoying your new landscaping this week. While you're enjoying it, we want to give you a couple of things to watch out for to ensure its long-term success.

1. Wean Watering Again

After 6 weeks of heavy watering, setting the water back should help the roots begin to stretch and go longer between waterings. Weaning closer toward the 2 days per week guidelines will save you water and help your sod grow deeper roots. Please know this recommendation is general and not based upon your specific season, recent rainfall, plant type, or soil.

*You will need to watch your plants closely as they are weaned off the more frequent watering.

2. Time to Mow

If you have sod, it should be rooted enough to mow now, but be sure to mow it on the highest setting possible for your mower. Cutting sod too low can drastically damage its ability to root as it does not have enough plant cell tissue to continue to grow, and doesn't have enough roots to repair the scalped leaves.

3. Maintenance

Maintenance of your new landscape plants with pruning and trimming should be safe now as the plants are adjusted. Maintenance such as edging, shrub trimming, plant pruning, and weeding should be every week if possible.
