Pollen is in the air, the caterpillars are taking over the exterior of your home, flowers are blooming, and the heat is slowly starting to crank up. That can only mean one thing...Spring is here and Summer is not too far away. April brings springtime heat like clockwork. That is why it is one of the most crucial times of year for your Gainesville landscape. The only way for your Gainesville FL landscaping to look it's best during the summer is if it's prepared correctly during the spring.

For you cooks out there, it's like marinating meat. If meat isn't marinated right, it just won't taste as good as it could if it had a couple hours to sit in a homemade compilation of sauces and spices.

Getting your Gainesville landscape and Gainesville lawn ready for the summer heat must be taken care of on multiple fronts:

  • FERTILIZATION -  Your Gainesville lawn really needs a healthy dose of nutrients in spring to help it recover from the winter and prepare for a rough summer. This will help it's roots grow deeper, stay green longer, and help it not attract pests such as chinch bugs. Using a weed and feed will also help control the broadleaf weeds that are so unsightly during the growing season as well. Your Gainesville landscape ornamentals, or shrubs and flowers, could also use some fertilization. This will help them bloom more often as well as grow into the plants your original Gainesville landscape design had envisioned them being. Do not use the weed and feed for your ornamentals though, as you should use a more balanced fertilizer blended specifically for Gainesville, FL landscape plants. If this is something you don't have the time or feel comfortable doing, call your local pest control service and most of them will gladly present you with a proposal to assist you in this area.
  • GAINESVILLE IRRIGATION - Spring and Summer are the high-demand times for water in your Florida landscape, which can cause your GRU bill to skyrocket if you aren't careful. Here are a few tips to make sure that doesn't happen to you:
    • Gainesville Sprinkler Systems run best early in the morning so that most of your water goes to the plants' roots rather than being lost to evaporation.
    • Water for longer periods of time rather than more times per week so that your lawn will develop a deep root system to help it sustain in the summer heat when it has to go without water for a couple days due to the lack of rainy weather.
    • Install a Rain Sensor on your Gainesville irrigation timer so that you aren't unnecessarily watering during or after a rain storm.
    • Do a complete system check to verify that you're getting proper coverage in your entire landscape, while also making sure that your not putting more water on the concrete than the lawn.
    • If any of the above items you don't feel comfortable doing, feel free to call us at (352) 481-5296 or just hit reply to this email and we can assist you in making sure your Gainesville irrigation system is efficient as possible (while offering a $75 GRU Rebate as well!)
  •  IMPROVEMENTS - If there are any changes that you've had the itch to see in your Gainesville, Florida landscape, now is the time to get them planned. Spring is the perfect time of year to do improvements to your landscape such as new plants, additional Gainesville sod, Gainesville Tree Service work or new Gainesville mulch. With the weather not being either of the two extremes, this is the best opportunity for the plants or Gainesville sod to root in healthily and not worry about the summer heat or winter freezes killing them before they adapt. We currently have a backlog of Gainesville landscape improvements planned, so if you want to get your project completed during spring, please call or e-mail us today so that we can get your landscape improvement scheduled as soon as possible.
Handling those three issues in April will save you a lot of headache (and money) in Summer. It's like the old saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."   Tags: Gainesville grass care ; Gainesville lawn ; Gainesville landscapes ; Gainesville landscaping ; Gainesville lawn Service ; Gainesville lawn care ; gainesville landscape design ;lawn 32607 ; lawn 32608 ; lawn 32656 ; lawn 32605 ; lawn 32601 ; lawn 32614 ;lawn 32615 ;lawn 32609 ; lawn 32606 ; Gainesville, fl lawn ; Gainesville, fl landscape design ; gainesville, fl landscaper
