Have you seen a shrub around that has red, lime and rich green foliage all on the same plant? Not only is the foliage a stand out in the landscape in the growing season, but in fall it turns a beautiful shade of red to brighten your landscape when most other plants are going dormant. If this sounds like something you would love to see in your Gainesville landscape, the plant you are looking for is a southern favorite, the Firepower Nandina!

The well-known version of Nandina is a sturdy, tough, drought tolerant shrub, but it is most known for it's invasive nature due to it's ability to spread quickly. It's also too large for certain areas and tends to grow too quickly.  That is the best thing about Firepower that many don't know. The nandina's invasive nature is removed in the Firepower cultivar and is also very tight and compact gorwing no taller than 4' tall.

Firepower Nandinas will grow in sun or shade, although when growing them in shade, they do not redden up as well as in full sun. This is a gourgeous plant to add to your landscape in spite of the bad name the original Nandina gets for it's invasiveness.
