This time of year lots of us are watching our wallets and saving our pennies to take care of all of the holiday expenses. It’s nice to know that there are some affordable options that make a big impact when it comes to sprucing up the outside of your home this time of year. Here are a few of the things I recommend to wow your holiday guests without breaking the bank.

Winter Annuals

Annual flowers are seasonal plants that look great for one or two seasons and are typically used to highlight entrances and high traffic areas of your landscape. There are many varieties to choose from in vibrant colors that provide a quick and affordable way to add a pop of color to your landscape in the dull winter months. Pansies are a tried and true favorite in Gainesville Lawns for cool-weather color that really makes a statement. Another favorite well suited to our climate is the petunia, with its colorful friendly flowers. Easy to maintain and inexpensive, they are also ideal for borders and will bloom repeatedly. Depending on the number of annuals installed, you can expect to spend $150-$300 to get a great splash of bright color in your landscape.

Winter Ryegrass

Ryegrass helps you keep that lush green summer lawn look in the colder winter months when other types of turf lie dormant. With its quick germination the results are almost instant! The ideal time usually is after Thanksgiving and barren spots can be seeded any time the night temperatures are consistently in the 60s. One of the lowest cost ways to spruce up your yard as the temperatures drop, winter rye grass will run $100-200 for the average Gainesville lawn.

Pressure Washing

With the holidays often come out of town guests and the easiest way to improve the look of your home is with pressure washing. Great for the exterior of your home as well as sidewalks, walkways and patios, pressure cleaning also hinders rot, decay and premature aging of the home to extend the life and improve the appearance of your investment. While you are having the exterior of your home cleaned don’t forget to ask about having all of those fall leaves blown off the roof and gutters!
